It is my pleasure to highly recommend the California School of Garden Design program, located in Newcastle, California.
I recently completed the Spring 2008 program. I entered the program as a total novice. In spite of my lack of experience in Garden Design, I left the program with the skills that empowered me to start my own garden design business. I was able to secure projects right after completing the program.
The instructor, Robert Littlepage, has the perfect temperament for students who present at every level. Our class consisted of a variety of students, from recent a college graduate, to mid-life career change adults. Rob is very patient, professional, and has a superb ability to communicate complex issues.
I always felt challenged to adhere to high standards, but ample support was always provided. Rob also communicated his own highly regarded landscape design experience in a way that embodied working with the highest integrity. I believe this is one of the greatest assets of the program. I have worked as a college professor, and I know a teacher's ego can sometimes get in the way of the learning experience. I have never, however, seen the instructor's objectivity interfere with his students learning experience.
I am proud to have attended the California School of Garden design, and because of the program, I am actively working on design projects.

The California School of Garden Design was a great place for me to get an introduction into landscape design. I knew nothing walking into the school and after the beginning and advanced classes I had enough confidence to design both small and large spaces.
While at the school I was given the opportunity to study with a landscape designer in South Africa after I finished the advanced course. I jumped at the chance. I was able to learn many great things about gardens in South Africa as well as study the country's many fantastic trees and shrubs.
I would recommend the California School of Garden Design to anyone interested in learning about landscape/garden design. The courses cover a lot of material and give an individual the necessary tools to get started in the landscape industry.
