Awards Programs

APLD has four award programs: the International Landscape Design Awards Program, the Award of Distinction, the Harry Schuster Service Award and the International Student Landscape Design Awards Program. Detailed information about each award is below.

INTERNATIONAL LANDSCAPE DESIGN AWARDS
APLD's prestigious international landscape design awards program began in 2002. Members and non-members have the opportunity to enter this program. Entries are judged by a distinguished panel of landscape design industry experts upon a variety of predeternined criteria.

The 2013 competition is now closed. The 2014 Call for Entries will be out in the fall of 2013.

AWARD OF DISTINCTION
In 1994, APLD initiated its Award of Distinction. This award is presented to a landscape designer, whether or not they are a member of APLD, to recognize that individual's contribution to the profession of landscape design.

HARRY SCHUSTER SERVICE AWARD
Many of you are lucky enough to remember Harry Schuster, APLD. He was a founding member of APLD and well known and loved for his energy, enthusiasm, sense of humor and zest for life. Harry was a mentor to many of us and seemed to have a boundless endurance when it came to recruiting members for APLD. Unfortunately, Harry lost his life suddenly on the brink of his retirement. In his honor, APLD has created the Harry Schuster Service Award. This award is presented each year to a person who most reflects the enthusiasm and selfless efforts to further APLD that Harry displayed for many years. This award is for service to the National/International organization.

CHAPTER SERVICE AWARD
The growth of APLD has been so indebted to the enthusiasm and energy of local activists that we would like to honor those individuals with the new Chapter Service Award. This award is to be presented to a current member in good standing who has shown exemplary service in furthering the goals and work of an APLD Chapter or District.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT LANDSCAPE DESIGN AWARDS PROGRAM
APLD launched its student design awards program in 2006. Students are supplied with a pre-determined site, photographs and a site plan and is required to submit a statement of design intent, a landscape master plan, a planting plan, and additional drawings.

The 2013 competition is now closed. The 2014 Call for Entries will be out in the fall of 2013.
